Just as Mobile World Congress would be coming to an end, it seems Xiaomi is getting ready for a long-awaited launch in India. The company has been building up to the launch of the Redmi Note 7 for the last few weeks, but now, we have a date. On February 28, the company will be launching the Redmi Note 7 and possibly the Redmi Note 7 Pro in India. We also expect the company to launch the Redmi Go.

The Redmi Note 7 Pro has been highly anticipated and is expected to come with a number of impressive features. For starters, there’s a 48-megapixel sensor (Sony IMX 586) on the primary camera, which if its anything like the one on the Honor View 20 (Review), should be a winner by itself. The phone is also expected to ship with the new Snapdragon 675 processor which will provide support for the aforementioned 48MP camera and Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+, amongst other things. The phone is expected to sport a 6.3-inch display with a resolution of 2340×1080, the same as the one on the Redmi Note 7. The battery capacity on the Redmi Note 7 Pro is expected to be 4000mAh.

The Redmi Note 7 has already launched in China and we have a good idea of what to expect. The phone, in its current form, is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor and comes in 3 RAM/storage variants. You can choose between 3GB, 4GB and 6GB of RAM, with storage options being 32GB of the lowest RAM variant and 64GB storage for the other two. In terms of imaging, there’s the Samsung ISOCELL GM1 sensor, which offers a true resolution of 12 megapixels, which it’s able to upscale to 48MP. The Redmi Note 7 sports a 4000mAh battery.

Lastly, Xiaomi is also expected to announce the Redmi Go, the company’s first Android Go device. The phone is expected to sport a 5-inch display with an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera. Powering the phone will be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset with 1GB of RAM.

Android Pie is coming to the Xiaomi

Android Pie is coming to the Xiaomi

Android Pie is coming to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, Redmi 6 Pro, Mi 6X, and Redmi S2 in Q1, beta sign-ups are live

Xiaomi’s OS update cycle differs from the conventional cycle followed by most other OEMs. In addition to base Android versions, Xiaomi devices also rely on MIUI updates for getting new features and stability improvements. This often means that features across devices are reliant more on the MIUI version than on the Android version of the device. On the other hand, the base Android version update definitely takes more time to arrive on the device as compared to other OEMs, but that is to be expected considering how heavy MIUI is as a UX skin.

Nonetheless, Xiaomi remains committed in bringing over the latest Android version to more and more devices in its portfolio. The Android Pie update was promised for devices like the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 and the Xiaomi Mi 8, and these have been delivered accordingly.

Now, Xiaomi has promised to bring over Android Pie for Xiaomi Mi 6X, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 (Redmi Note 5 Pro in India), the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro and the Xiaomi Redmi S2 (Redmi Y2 in India), with the internal beta estimated to be ready within Q1 of 2019. While this news does not give a concrete timeline on when the stable update arrives for devices like the Indian Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and the Redmi Y2, it does imply that both the devices will receive an official Android Pie update, eventually.

If you would like to participate in the internal beta program for these devices, head on over to the Beta Sign-Up page. Keep in mind that beta software is called beta for a reason, so only sign up if you know what you are walking into. For those unsure, keep calm and wait for stable Pie.

5 best smartphones under Rs 20,000 to play PUBG Mobile

If you are in the market to buy a mid-range smartphone mainly for playing PUBG Mobile, there are some great options to choose from. Let’s take a look:

To say PubG Mobile is the most popular game right now in India would be an understatement. The multiplayer battle-royale game where 100 players shoot and kill each other to be the last man standing has caught on like wildfire. While this is hardly the best designed mobile game, the primary reason for the game’s infectious popularity is the ability to play the gmae on just about any smartphone. Albeit in a lower graphics settings, PubG Mobile runs on entry-level phones, all the way to the premium flagships where you get the best experience. In India, however, the mid-range segment is the most popular with most phones under Rs 20,000 offering decently powerful performance, just enough to play games like PubG Mobile and even excel at it.

If you are in the market to buy a mid-range smartphone mainly for playing PubG Mobile, there are some great options to choose from. Let’s take a look:

5. Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro may not be a huge upgrade over its predecessor, but it can handle PubG Mobile just fine. The Snapdragon 636 is showing little signs of rust but the popular battle-royale works just as well as other mid-rangers. In fact, on GameBench, the Redmi Note 6 Pro recorded 25 FPS with 97 percent stability, indicating it’s jitter free and no lags. You won’t however get the best graphics on the phone as the Adreno 509 GPU can only support medium graphics, but the 6.26-inch display makes it a pleasant experience. It has also has a large 4,000mAh battery ensuring you can play on for longer.

4. Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2

Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2

The Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2 was a quick successor to the previous stock-Android mid-ranger by the Taiwanese giant, and it makes a strong argument at being one of the best phones for gaming in the mid-range segment. With 6GB RAM and a Snapdragon 660 processor, it has enough resources to handle long hours of gaming, especially intensive titles like PubG Mobile. On GameBench, the Max Pro M2 delivered stable frame rates of 30FPS with little lags. While that’s not the max PubG Mobile FPS can go, it’s enough to play competitively online. The 5,000mAh battery makes the Zenfone Max Pro M2 last longer than most mid-rangers while gaming.

3. Realme 2 Pro

Realme 2 Pro

The Realme 2 Pro also sports the same hardware as the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 but thanks to a larger, more immersive display, playing PubG Mobile on the Realme 2 Pro is a slightly better experience. The game has little to no lags and a steady frame rate of 30 FPS, according to GameBench. There is also a dedicated game mode that silences incoming messages and boosts resources to allow for better gaming. The 3,500mAh surprisingly lasts quite long allowing for longer hours of gaming.

2. Honor Play

Honor Play

The Honor Play is designed keeping PubG Mobile in mind. In China, the phone was a result of an official collaboration with Tencent and playing PubG Mobile on the phone is a unique experience. The phone supports 4D haptic feedback in the game. Every time you press the trigger you receive a vibration feedback. It also varies from one gun to another, and while it doesn’t really contribute to you playing better, the experience is a lot more enhanced. Furthermore, there’s 3D surround sound through headphones that helps you track footsteps and gunshots in the game. Finally, the phone supports GPU Turbo that Honor claims boosts the performance by 60 percent as compared to the previous generation. It also runs on a flagship Kirin 970 SoC coupled with 6GB of RAM. On Gamebench, we registered 40 FPS on PubG Mobile with high stability, which means the Honor Play is one of the best smartphones to play PubG Mobile.

1. Xiaomi Poco F1

Xiaomi Poco F1

If you’re looking for the best phone purely to play PubG Mobile under Rs 20,000, the Poco F1 is your best bet. The phone may look like an average mid-ranger from the outside, but under the hood is a flagship Snapdragon 845 which has been the best chipset for mobile gaming so far. The base variant of the phone which is priced at Rs 18,999 has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage which is enough to run PuBG Mobile at the highest graphics settings. On GameBench, we registered 40 FPS which is as high as it can go in the game while the stability was at a high 98 percent. More than that, the phone has a dedicated cooling system that draw heat away from the CPU so that longer hours of gaming doesn’t hamper the performance. There’s also a large 4,000mAh battery that easily lets you play for hours without depleting the battery.

Can a triple-camera setup be the key chance of Apple’s iPhone comeback?

Apple’s planned expansion into a three-smartphone model wasn’t exactly rewarded in 2018 as the company’s shares dipped 12 percent in December, but the Cupertino-based company has a history of bouncing back. While it’s still too early to judge the fate of the IPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and the iPhone XR, we can now confirm that Apple will launch three new iPhones in 2019, continuing the current lineup. We have gotten our hands on a very early look at the 2019 iPhone. This is in fact the very first look at what Apple is up to and by the looks of it, the next flagship iPhone will have three cameras on the back.

It is claimed that the 2019 iPhones are still in Engineering Validation Test (EVT) stage, and there could be changes in the details when the phones will eventually launch in September 2019. We also know that Apple plans to launch three iPhones in September 2019 — One low-end variant, possibly the successor to the iPhone XR and two high-end variants, succeeding the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max. Not knowing the scale at which the image was rendered, it is difficult to say which variant will sport the three cameras. However, given the drastic change in the camera setup, this, most probably, is our closest look at the top of the line 2019 iPhone.

The leaked renders reveal a square camera unit housing three cameras aligned non-linearly. There are two cameras aligned vertically, similar to the iPhone XS. The render reveals there will be a third camera placed between the two, on the side. Above that is an LED flash and a microphone on the bottom.

Excitement level over 9000!!! 🤪
I wish I could show you what I just saw but unfortunately, I can’t right now… 😓

The fact that the 2019 iPhones may have three cameras is cross-referenced by an earlier report by Bloomberg that states Apple will adopt long-distance 3D ToF technology on the 2019 iPhones. With a non-aligned camera module on the back, Apple could adopt the technology for the rear camera, similar to the Oppo R17 Pro. ToF or Time of Flight technology relies on how much time light takes to bounce off an object to create a 3D map. Sony is presently manufacturing 3D sensors for the technology, and the Bloomberg report stated the publication spoke to Sony to confirm the news. The leaked renders, as a result seem to be accurate to the information available so far.

The third camera can be used to focus faster on the object, and to create 3D models. It can track objects even in dark almost instantaneously by throwing laser pulses at the object and measuring the time taken by the laser to bounce back to the sensor. The sensors can have an even bigger impact in AR and VR. Sony claims the ToF sensor can be used to map rooms in real-time. In a demonstration, the report claimed Sony showed the camera can be used to track user’s hands in a game, like casting a spell.

“Cameras revolutionized phones, and based on what I’ve seen, I have the same expectation for 3D [cameras],” Satoshi Yoshihara, Head of Sony’s sensor division told Bloomberg. Sony plans to ramp up the production of rear and front facing 3D ToF sensors to meet the iPhone demand. The production is expected to kick start late summer.

First look at 2019 Apple iPhone XI

The 2019 iPhones are still nine months away from becoming available. And while we can confirm the flagship smartphones will use a new technology to improve photography, the design itself is not final. However, the renders reveal the black-coloured rear panel will be made of glass (the shine around the edges denotes that). The Apple logo will remain the centre of attraction though, positioned in the top centre.

An earlier report also claimed Apple will not have a major design revamp. Tipster Ice Universe had noted in a Tweet that Apple will stick to using the notch in 2019 and in 2020, the company is expected to launch iPhones with punch-hole displays.

While the presence of three cameras certainly sound impressive, it is likely to push up the cost of production further. In a teardown of the iPhone XS Max, it was noted that the bill of materials of the 256GB 2018 flagship iPhone was $443, as compared to the $1243 price tag it fetches in the US. Knowing Apple and its affinity to use high-quality components, the cost is likely to increase further. Now it remains to be seen whether that will affect the price of the 2019 iPhones.

Apple reduced the forecast of iPhone sales for the upcoming quarterly report after lower-than-expected sales in 2018. The company has introduced price-cuts and trade-in incentives to boost sales of the 2018 iPhones. Many analysts believe the ongoing trade war between US and China have hurt iPhone sales in China, while the high price of the iPhones in India have led to a lacklustre response in the world’s second largest smartphone market.

It remains to be seen whether by adding a third camera to the setup (and making the iPhone look extremely ugly in the process), Apple can bounce back from a disappointing 2018. The company has done it multiple times in the past, and as the leaks suggest, a three-camera iPhone will be the key to company’s comeback plan.

While it is too early to believe such leaks, especially with such an awkward design, we suggest that you take this with a pinch of salt.

Best guns in PUBG Mobile

Best guns in PUBG Mobile to help you win that Chicken Dinner

Assault Rifles, Sniper Rifles, Light Machine Guns, Submachine Guns, Shotguns and Pistols – Here’s all you need to know about how to select the best gun from the lot in PUBG Mobile.

Best guns in PUBG Mobile

Saying that PlayerUnknown’s Battleground for mobile phones, or better known as PUBG mobile, is a famous game will be a gross understatement. Over 20 million players globally slug it out in the game everyday to get a piece of that Chicken Dinner. Some of these players make it to the top ranks with their sharp skills and smooth moves. However, alongside skills, choosing the right loadout while playing PUBG is crucial as all weapons have varying damage rate, which increases or decreases based on the attachments you fit them with. Read on to find some of the best weapons and attachments you can pick up in PUBG Mobile to beat the competition. Do note that these weapons are ranked on the basis of their base damage and not ease of use.

Top Three Assault Rifles And Their Attachments In PUBG Mobile

Groza: The Groza is the most powerful assault rifles in PUBG Mobile with a base damage factor of 49, but it can be found only in drop crates. It uses 7.62mm rounds and has a mag capacity of 30 bullets. If you find it in a drop crate or from some other player’s crate, better hold on to it. We suggest that along with a 4x scope, you pick a suppressor attachment for the rifle since it will add slight more stability while firing.

Beryl M762: This rifle was added to the PUBG Mobile universe with the recent 0.9.5 update and fortunately, it’s not limited to the drop crate. It also uses 7.62mm rounds and is quite versatile when it comes to attachments. With base damage rate of 47, we suggest pairing it with a suppressor or a compensator and a 2x scope.

AKM: The AKM utilises 7.62mm rounds and can be found easily on all the maps in PUBG Mobile. It dishes 49 damage per bullet and is good for beating an enemy in short to medium range. An extended quickdraw mag, a compensator and a 4x or 6x scope go well with the rifle.

Best Attachments: All the three guns support an array of attachments and an extended quickdraw mag, a compensator or a suppressor, and a 2x or 4x scope goes well with the rifles. For the guns that Stock

Top Three Sniper Rifles And Their Attachments In PUBG Mobile

AWM: The  Arctic Warfare Magnum (AWM) is the most powerful weapon in PUBG Mobile. The sniper rifle is found only in crates and uses .300 ammo that rarely found on the map. With a massive base damage of 120, but it has a magazine capacity of merely 5 rounds. If you get this sniper rifle, be sure to pick up an 8x scope, an extended mag, a cheek pad and a suppressor for better sights, more rounds and added firing stability.

M24: M24 is the second most powerful sniper rifle after AWM in the game. The M24 has a good stopping power with 88 damage and is also found in loot crates. Coupling it with a suppressor, an 8x scope, a cheek pad and a quick draw mag should give you a greater advantage over your opponent.

Kar98k: The Karabiner 98 Kurz or the Kar98k is a single bolt action sniper rifle that has a hit damage of 75 and is relatively good at mid-range sniping. You can find it openly on the map. It’s good against opponents wearing level 1 and level 2 helmets but it has a slow reloading time. Pair this sniper with a suppressor, bullet loops, and an 8x scope, and you are good to go.

Best Attachments: Since all of these sniper rifles have a bolt action mechanism and fire one round everytime the trigger is pulled, it is best to equip them with a suppressor. These rifles also have lower magazine capacity and thus an extended mag will be beneficial as well. An 8x scope is a must but a 6x scope works similarly well. Additionally, a cheek pad will give additional stability to your shots.

Top Light Machine Guns And Their Attachments In PUBG Mobile

There are only two Light Machine Guns (LMGs) in PUBG Mobile and both of them use different types of ammo.

DP-28: With a damage of 51, the DP-28 is a powerful LMG that uses 7.62mm ammo type. It can be found freely on the map but it has a low rate of fire, which is compensated by a 47 bullet magazine. As this gun is more effective when used in short range, we suggest using either a 2x scope or a holographic sight with it.

M249: The M249 strikes a good balance between power and manoeuvrability. However, it also supports only scope attachments and a 4x scope should be good enough. It has a hit damage of 45 and uses 5.56mm ammo. Do note that its single magazine can hold 100 bullets, which is more than enough for medium range combat.

Best Attachments: Both the above-mentioned LMGs can only be equipped with a scope and since using them means compromising slightly on speed, we suggest that you use 4x or 2x scope with them in mid to short range combat.

Top Three Sub Machine Guns And Their Attachments In PUBG Mobile

Tommy Gun: The classic Thompson submachine gun has a hit damage of 40 and is the best submachine gun in PUBG Mobile. However, it is quite challenging because of high recoil, slow reload time and no sight attachment support. The gun is much better when supplemented with an extended quickdraw mag, a suppressor and a vertical foregrip.

UMP9: The UMP9 strikes the best balance between power and ease of use from the three SMGs. It is the second most powerful weapon in its segment with a hit damage of 39 and one can attach an assortment of items to it. It uses 9mm ammo rounds and you can equip it with a Thumb Grip, extended quickdraw mag, Holographic or Red Dot sight and a compensator for enhanced performance.

Vector: The Vector can be easily found freely on the map and even though it has a lower damage of 34, you can use a plethora of attachments to make it better in short range combat. The weapon uses .45 ACP ammunition that is hard-hitting and has a built-in recoil mitigation system. Use a Lightweight Grip, Quick Draw mag, Suppressor and a 2x scope with the gun for added effectiveness.

Best Attachments: Commonly, all the three SMGs support an extended quickdraw mag and a suppressor. However, we think that grip can be chosen based on an individual’s preference and there’s not really need for a scope above 2x magnification.

Top Three Shotguns And Their Attachments In PUBG Mobile

There are only three shotguns in PUBG Mobile and we have ranked them here purely on the basis of their hit damage. Do note that shotguns are only good in very close combat.

S686: The S686 is a double-barreled shotgun that has a hit damage of 24. Extremely effective in Close Quarter Battles (CQB), the gun is almost instant in firing two rounds and is best suited for use when clearing houses. It uses 12 Gauge rounds. It supports only two attachments and works best when paired with Bullet Loops and a Choke (SG) with to reduce the bullet spread and increase the reload speed.

S1897: The S1897 is equally powerful as the S686 with a base hit damage of 24. However, its bullet spread is slightly higher and thus you will have to equip it with a Choke (SG) and Bullet Loops. The weapon also uses 12 Gauge rounds that can be easily found in houses.

S12K: The S12K is slightly less powerful than the other two shotguns but it supports more attachments. It is a semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun with a hit damage level of 22. You can pair it with an Extended QuickDraw Mag, a Duckbill (SG), and a Red Dot Sight to enable faster reloads and a more horizontal bullet spread.

Best Attachments: The attachments mentioned alongside the Shotguns should work best.

Top Three Pistols And Their Attachments In PUBG Mobile

R45: The R45 uses a .45 Ammo and has a hit damage stat of 55. It is the best side-weapon to carry in-game and can only get one red dot sight attachment. However, it is best utilised in close combat.

R1895: The R1895 is also quite powerful as it has a damage stat of 55 and uses 7.62mm ammo. It is tougher to use than the R45 since its reload times are higher and the rate of fire is low. It only supports the suppressor attachment.

P1911: With a hit damage of 41, the P1911 is less powerful than the above mentioned two handguns but is the most versatile with support for up to four attachments. It uses .45 ammo type and has a magazine size of 7 clips. An Extended Mag, a Suppressor and a Red Dot or a Laser Sight will be the best attachments for it.

Best Attachments: The attachments mentioned alongside the Pistols should work best.

6 noob mistakes to avoid when playing PUBG Mobile

Yes, A single mistake can cost you the game in PUBG Mobile. You should ensure that you avoid making these in your quest for that elusive “WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER”

6 noob mistakes to avoid when playing PUBG Mobile

Winning a round of PUBG Mobile is not easy. It’s a tricky game that seems to reward luck just as equally as skill. You can try all the tips and tricks in the book, but a single mistake can get you gunned down by the opposition. However, some mistakes are way too common for us to ignore any longer. So without further ado, here are some noob mistakes that are just asking for trouble.

Here are 6 noob Mistakes to avoid while playing PUBG Mobile…

Unnecessary looting

This is possible the most common mistake players tend to make. In their haste to get the best possible loot, they tend to spend the majority of the game looting. Remember, the objective of the game is to be the last player alive, not be the player that has the most loot. If you find a decent set of armor, a good gun, and a decent scope, looting should no longer take priority.

Immediately looting a downed player

There are so many players who instinctively make their way to the player they have just killed in order to loot their gear. There are so many ways this can backfire. The gun battle may have alerted nearby players who might come and investigate. Add to this the fact that downed players let off a flashing green light and accompanying smoke, and you’ve literally given your position away. This is especially true in case of Duos or Squad mode where some players start looting even before the rest of the team has been defeated. Don’t be that player. Make sure that the coast is clear, then get to looting.

Rushing supply drops

Supply drops can sometimes be the difference between victory and loss. The loot in a drop crate can make you one of the most powerful players in the match. As such, the desire to immediately head towards one can be great. However, unless the drop is right next to you, rushing towards the crate is suicide. There are plenty of other guys who will have the same idea and will be rushing towards the crate as well. It’s a better idea to stop, survey the area around the crate, and then proceed. Remember: the early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse always get the cheese.

Not changing position after being spotted

If you attack a player and they duck behind a cover, many players tend to stay in the same location, waiting for the enemy to come out from cover. That is liable to get you killed by either the same player, or another player who has come to investigate. If your target ducks behind cover, you should move away to another location. This may give you another angle from which to flank your enemy, while he/she is still trying to spot you.

Engaging an enemy without a clear strategy

Unless you really want that ‘Terminator’ badge, you’ll do well to remember that PUBG is all about being the last one alive. This means that killing is just one part of the action. In fact, it’s possible to win without even killing a single player. So if you see an enemy who hasn’t spotted you yet, you might not want to give up your location just yet. There could be many reasons for this. The player may be beyond the range of your weapon, or he/she may be better equipped that you. Also, they may have cover near them, while you may not. So keep this in mind before engaging another player.

Not watching your flank

When hiding in tall grass, you movements can give you away and makes for a very silly way to die. Not many people realise that they can look around, without physically moving the player. This can be done by using that tiny little joystick that looks like an eye, which is located right next to the map. This allows you to turn the camera around, without moving the player.

These were just some of the ways you can avoid being gunned down like a noob. Also, you can check the powers and specifications of weapons in PUBG Mobile game.

One will get to avail the benefits of the new offer between December 28, 2018, and January 31, 2019. Additionally, the coupons that are credited after the recharge will be valid until March 15.

The coupons will also be eligible over the existing Ajio offers and will be available via the Ajio app or the website when one places an order with a minimum cart value of Rs 1,000. This offer is available for both new and old Jio subscribers and as mentioned earlier, is only applicable on the telco’s Rs 399 prepaid recharge option. You can go through the entire terms and conditions here. Under this recharge plan, Jio users will get to avail 1.5GB data per day with a validity of 84 days, along with unlimited calls, 100 SMS per day and a complimentary subscription to Jio’s suite of apps like JioCinema, Jio Chat and others.

In other Jio news, the company is working to launch an “affordable large-screen smartphone” for users who want to upgrade to a 4G-enabled smartphone. The company was also recently spotted testing its VoWiFi (voice over Wi-Fi) service again. Back in July, Jio was said to be testing the feature and it was said be roll out in the next few months but that didn’t happen. A report suggested that Jio was testing the feature across multiple circles including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala.

With the late February launch of the Surface Pro, it’s been a busy year for Microsoft in India. It decided to bring its entire Surface line-up to the country. Sticking to that plan, it has just launched the Surface Go, which—in the words you want to hear—is the cheapest Surface device sold yet. It’s available in two variants and both come with a 7th-gen Intel Pentium Gold 4415Y CPU. The base variant gets 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage on an eMMC chip for Rs 37,999. The top-end variant gets 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage on a PCIe-based solid-state drive for Rs 49,999.

Body Design : Microsoft Surface Go

Both variants of the Surface Go run Windows 10 in S mode by default, which means you’re limited to apps installed through the Microsoft Store (for security reasons primarily). However, I was informed at the product presentation that the user can make a one-time switch out of S mode. During the hands-on session I got a chance to play with the Surface Go. As soon as I approached one, I felt it looked exactly like the Surface Pro but stubbier and smaller, which is what Microsoft was going for. It felt extremely light in the hands when I lifted it and even more so when I tore the keyboard off its bottom edge. The device alone weighs only 520g, which is half of what most Ultrabooks out there weigh. The optional keyboard adds about 200g.

The magnesium surface of the well… Surface, felt smooth and grippy and the soft velvety back of the optional Type Cover keyboard even more so. On the top side I noticed a power button and a volume rocker. Around the sides I found a single USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm audio jack. There was, of course, that signature magnetic power port as well.

User Experience: Insufficient for a proper laptop
As I played with the Surface Go I noticed that the device’s keyboard, touchpad, and display were too small for me to use conveniently. I made errors while typing frequently because the keys were placed too closely to one another. What’s more, I felt I had little space to scribble on the device’s 10-inch PixelSense display. Plucked away from the dangling keyboard and stylus, the Surface Go felt good in the hands as a tablet. There was sufficient bezel around the display. So holding it like an iPad to take photos was an easy affair.

I can’t say I was impressed with the demo device’s performance because the Surface Go stammered every few seconds when I tried to enter some text in Microsoft Word. Things did not improve even after clearing out apps in Task Manager and performing a reboot. Other Office 365 apps like PowerPoint opened in under five seconds and a full warm boot did not take more than 40 seconds, which is not bad at all. Still, only a full review will tell us what performance is like on the Surface Go. For the moment, I’m just going to point at the line in the Surface Go’s spec sheet that says ‘Intel Pentium’, then to its price tag, and give you a suggestive wink.

First Impressions

At the product presentation, the Microsoft representative stressed on the fact that the Surface Go was designed for use with the Surface Pen stylus as much as it was with the touchpad and keyboard. Suffice it to say that by the end of the presentation that it was clear Microsoft definitely wanted a piece of the market pie that the Apple iPad line-up is gobbling up quietly all by itself. Here’s my problem with that aim: Microsoft isn’t doing enough.

If it really wanted its customers to start scribbling on a fresh OneNote page right after purchase, Microsoft would’ve offered its Surface Pen stylus along with the petite ten-inch device without charging an extra Rs 9,500. I say this because, as a full-fledged laptop, the tiny Surface Go seems insufficient, and as a creator’s portable tablet, incomplete. Nonetheless, a comprehensive review will tell us if the Microsoft Surface Go is really worth the half a lakh it demands.

CES 2019 is less than a month away and Samsung has announced the Notebook 9 laptops that will be available in 2019 and will be showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2019 in Vegas. Speaking of the 2 laptops, they will come with Samsung’s S-Pen in the box. Both laptops sport a hinge which allows them to bend like a convertible. Samsung claims that both laptops can function for 15 hours on a single charge. In terms of specifications, both the variants of Samsung’s Notebook 9 will sport a Full HD display powered by an Intel core i7 8th generation CPU under the hood. The RAM and storage options of the two laptops isn’t known but what is known is that the 13-inch variant will have an integrated graphics card and the 15-inch variant will have the NVIDIA GrForce MX 150 (2GB) graphics card. In terms of connectivity, both the laptops will come with two Thunderbolt 3 ports and one USB Type-C port. There will also be a headphone/mic combo port, and a microSD reader.

When it comes to the S-Pen on the laptop, Samsung claims that it has reduced the latency considerably. The S-Pen also comes with three replaceable nibs helping users customize the pen tip’s to suit their work needs. When it comes to the design of the laptop, it sports a similar colour scheme found on the Galaxy Note 9 smartphone. The laptops feature an all-metal blue body. The pen on the other hand is yellow. There is a housing for the S-Pen in the front of the laptop. Other laptops have found ways to magnetically stick the stylus to one side to ensure it has a place on the machine. However, it is nice to see Samsung make space for the stylus in the laptop itself.

“Choice and creativity go hand in hand, and those who create deserve the flexibility to work the way they want, wherever inspiration strikes,” said YoungGyoo Choi, Senior Vice President and Head of the PC Business Team, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “With improved design and performance, along with our Notebook’s most advanced S Pen yet, the new Notebook 9 Pen is perfect for contemporary professionals who put especially high demands on their technology.”

The S-Pen debuted with the Samsung Galaxy Note smartphone and has continued to evolve with the launch of each subsequent iteration of the phablet. With the Note 9, the S-Pen can be used as the shutter button to click photos and as a clicker to switch slides in your presentations. You can check out our review of the Note 9 here.

Touchscreen have become more popular on Windows devices in the past year and for designers, it makes sense to have a dedicated pen to help them work on the go. Samsung isn’t doing something new by bundling an S-Pen with its laptop. It is however, taking on the design world by introducing a dedicated housing and interchangeable tips with the S-Pen which may be an enticing offer for designers and artists looking for a machine on the go. How this pans out is something we will comment on when we get our hands on the device at CES 2019. On its press page, Samsung says that the Notebook 9 Pen will be available in Korea from December 14 and will expand to USA, China, Brazil, and Hong Kong starting in early 2019.
